Changes are coming

We have been in communication today with the docents who will be replacing us at the farmhouse. It is a sad realization for us that our time here will soon come to an end, and we've tried to just stay busy and not think too much about it. We have met so many wonderful people that have come through here for tours, and the brief time that we have been privileged to spend with each of them has made a lasting impression on us. We feel that we have been changed for the better by our experiences in this special place. We have read two histories while we have been here--William G. Hartley's history of the Knight family, and Lucy Mack Smith's history on her son Joseph. Both of these books have served to help Church and family history come alive for us since we've been in the very spots where some of the events detailed in these books took place. We have gained a deeper love, respect, and appreciation for all those who sacrificed so much for the gospel to be restored to the earth.
Our day passed pretty routinely with the exception that we met up with the Abneys one more time this evening in South Bend, Pennsylvania. They invited us to go out to dinner with them, and it was wonderful to be able to just sit and visit with them as friends without being in a rush. They are amazing people and this is the fourth mission they have served as a couple. Before they left on this mission, they sold their home and either sold or gave away most of their belongings, including their food storage which they gave to their children. They don't know where they are going to live after their mission, but they intend to keep serving missions. We love their faith and their devotion to the Lord. They are incredible examples for our ward family, and they are so loved and revered by everyone back home.
On our drive back from Pennsylvania this evening, we were traveling on Colesville Road and passed the park named for Nathaniel Cole, the founder of Colesville. We stopped briefly and walked through the park where we saw a tree that is already starting to change colors. We are told that in the next few weeks the hills, that are so incredibly green right now, will start changing to beautiful shades of red, orange, and yellow until the entire landscape will be a riot of fall colors as far as the eye can see. We will have to come again sometime when the fall colors are at their peak so we can experience that.
